How hard is it to explore the molecular world? How expensive is it to get started?
Well, not that expensive to be honest.
We have all the bits and pieces that you need to start looking at the molecular world, as well as a number of @Home learning labs - and on-line learning resources. Some of those home learning labs come with fixed pipettes, some do not need a PCR instrument, just a molecular viewer.

To begin with, this is the wish list:
- PCR instrument, 8-well, AC or USB-C powered. It can be used to extract DNA as well as amplify it with the right reagents, this is the expensive part at $1435, and not essential for all the @Home Learning kits.
- Pipettes - we have 2 grades, with 4 volume ranges. Each pipette is $123 or $197 respectively or you can get all four pipettes for $770 or $690.
- P51 molecular viewer, 9v battery or USB powered fluorescence imager. Uses two filters with a single emission source to detect 2 fluorescence wavelengths. This can be used to detect DNA, RNA and Protein using fluorescent dyes, these dyes can also be used for end-point fluorescent PCR detection. $70
- blueGEL or Gelato Gel Imaging Systems, these are for separating and visualising PCR products. The blueGEL is cheaper but is not designed for band cutting, both models allow the PCR products to be visualised when running in real-time.
